IT'S RACE DAY!!!

Saturday, April 19, 2008

Noon (CST) ---- aka 1:00pm!

As provided by the USAT USA Triathlon Association:

USA Triathlon has three qualifying events for the Games. The first was in Beijing last September, with Shoemaker and Bennett earning the first spots. The Olympic Trials in Tuscaloosa on Saturday will give the top U.S. man and woman the next spots. The final man and woman will be selected after the June 22 Hy- Vee Triathlon in Des Moines, Iowa. Those remaining slots will be awarded based on a points system taking into account the best two races for each athlete left in the running.

A sign? We'd like to think so....

It was a year ago today that TEAMSPIRIT held it's official kickoff event.  Exactly one year later we are just where we had hoped to be... celebrating Margie's continued success as she strives for her goal to make the Olympic team knowing that our support has truly contributed along the way.

THANKS TO ALL WHO MADE THE WASHINGTON CAPITALS/TEAMSPIRIT EVENT A GREAT SUCCESS!

Thanks to all that joined in this great event.  The night was a victory for all. A special thanks to Acumen Solutions for sponsoring the pre-game Happy Hour as well as to Darren Montgomery and the Washington Capitals for their support of TEAMSPIRIT!

A new year gives us all the chance to reflect back as we look forward so we can strengthen our goals toward the future. We appreciate your interest and support in TEAMSPIRIT as we continue to show our support for Margie and the goals she holds for the year ahead....

" I think all National Team members share the goal of qualifying for (and then performing well in) the Olympics in August. Beyond that, my greatest goal for this year is to gain and apply valuable racing experience so that I can finish consistently among the top 20 or better in World Cup races. Additionally I will work to qualify for the World Championships, to have a top-15 finish in a high quality World Cup field, and to finish among the top 5 at the US National Championship. My training focus will be on improving my swim and run speed, and I will carry out a training peak for the Tuscaloosa and Des Moines races, but will continue to race internationally throughout 2008 regardless of whatever results the US Olympic Trials bring."

ABOUT MARGIE SHAPIRO

Margie finds a moment to enjoy the view of yet another far away

land for an ITU World Cup Race, "Kitzbuhel (Austria) is breathtaking"

Margie Shapiro is a world class triathlete and hometown hero who defies the characteristics of many athletes today. Dedicated to her sport only in equal pairing to her dedication to family, including two children, coaching of other athletes, business demands of an expanding retail store, tutoring, mentoring and more. Margie gives so much to others, now is our chance to give back in support of her quest to achieve a dream, to participate in the 2008 Olympic Games.

Margie will need to travel the globe, from Australia to Beijing and back, competing in over 20 races to achieve a World Cup ranking for eligibility into the Olympic Games. The process of entry into these critical races has its own challenges. Margie is well poised to be ranked in good standing.

But the reality is that flying the globe and training at this level comes with a price. As much as she works to support her dream, TEAMSPIRIT has been created to allow her to focus on training as we work to support some of the expenses such a dream requires. In return, we will witness first hand, through the partnership created with this amazing pro athlete, the path to an Olympic dream.
